QACETD Initiates Broadband Infrastructure Project at Chesapeake Bay Business Park to Enhance Economic Competitiveness

Queen Anne’s County Economic & Tourism Development (QACETD) has announced a transformative broadband expansion project that will bolster the County’s business attraction and retention efforts, and spur economic growth within the Chesapeake Bay Business Park (CBBP) in Stevensville, Maryland.

The Chesapeake Bay Business Park (CBBP) stands as a hub of economic activity in Queen Anne’s County, housing more than one hundred businesses and a significant portion of the county’s workforce. The expansion of broadband infrastructure in the CBBP will support the diverse needs of many of Queen Anne’s County’s top industries, including manufacturing and wholesale trade, professional services, healthcare, warehousing, and construction-related trades and services.

QACETD recognized the vital role of reliable, high-speed internet access in supporting business innovation and productivity, and partnered with the QAC Broadband Advisory Committee and KRM Development Corporation to address the existing challenges faced by businesses within the CBBP. KRM Development Corporation surveyed its tenants to understand more about their broadband needs and found that respondents overwhelmingly indicated they are in need of faster and more reliable service.

The project, funded through Maryland Department of Commerce’s Rural Maryland Economic Development Fund (RMEDF), will see the installation of underground fiber infrastructure capable of delivering uninterrupted service to all sites within the CBBP.

Choptank Fiber was selected as the vendor for the Broadband Access Project and is expected to complete the installation by November 2024.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a thriving business environment in Queen Anne’s County, we have prioritized the enhancement of broadband access within the Chesapeake Bay Business Park,” says Heather Tinelli, Director of QACETD. “By partnering with Choptank Fiber, we are taking significant strides toward increasing the County’s economic competitiveness across the region, retaining our existing businesses, and attracting new businesses that provide the kind of jobs and services that our residents need.”
